The border is a feast for the eyes: concentric rings of hand-dotted yellow, white, and black circles frame the piece in a style reminiscent of Huichol and Oaxacan folk traditions. No two crosses are identical — the placement of milagros and the hand-painted dots vary with each artisan's hand.
